US Supreme Court “We Hold that Roe and Casey Must Be Overruled”

By TeKāhu

In what may be an incredible victory for defenders of unborn babies, the United States Supreme Court appears to fully reject the 1973 decision that saw abortion course through the American public.

Politico, the politics-centred journalism company, has obtained the initial draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito. In it, Justice Alito has significantly strong statements, including:

Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division.”

The document is part of a majority opinion from SCOTUS, and looks to overturn 50 years of protecting the termination of the unborn. Without knowing which judge is voting which way, it can be argued that the majority may be by the Republican-appointed judges.

It is also notable that breaches in confidentiality are very rare, and will receive a robust investigation into how the document was obtained.

The document also comes at a time of great tension, as those who support terminating the unborn have engaged in fierce reaction, even going to personal attacks:

In comparison, those speaking to defend the lives of the unborn were equally expressive, if less vitriolic:

There have even been humourous examples of those who desire to maintain the power required to terminate their unborn:

What is of interest is that many of those who are pro-abortion allege that the issue is a woman’s issue. This has been often debunked, as early feminists were resoundingly against the proliferation of abortion, and it has been noted that many abortions are coerced by boyfriends who do not want the child.

Until the official announcement is made, tensions remain high.
