Upper Hutt: No change to traffic light settings for public facilities

Announcement Published on 17 December 2021.

On 16 December, Upper Hutt City Council reviewed their traffic light settings, agreeing there would be no change to the current settings.

Upper Hutt City Council does not need vaccine passes to be shown at Upper Hutt Libraries, Council’s Civic Centre and H2O Xtream Aquatic Centre.

“We will, however, continue with our approach to assessing risk to council staff and public access to all council facilities during the holiday period, and will be ready to change our settings if we need to.”

The council came under much scrutiny over the decision originally announced on the December 02.  A review was undertaken by the Upper Hutt Council and the decision not to alter the traffic light settings was announced today.  Minister Chris Hipkins who is MP for the area (Remutaka) responded that “It was up to each council to decide its own policy.”

“While we have received messages of support over the past two weeks, we have also heard messages of concern from staff, elected officials and members of the community” says Chief Executive, Peter Kelly.

“We have factored that into our risk-based approach so that if the risk changes, our settings will also change.”

Feedback obtained from facebook posts on the 2nd and 17th December indicate strong public support for the council decision.
