Massive eruption in Tonga followed up with Tsunami, Civil Defence warning

After erupting intermittingly throughout last month, the Tongan volcano known as Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai has exploded in a massive display of force, also releasing a tsunami that flooded areas of the capital.

Ash was shot up to 20 km into the air, with an eruption radius of 260km.

Experiences with the tsunami were captured and New Zealand has updated to the warnings already in place for cyclone Cody:

While the danger is being closely monitored, there has also been beauty displayed in the after-effects.
