Convoy Protests Now Global, Demanding End To Mandates

While NZ is focused on its largest-ever protest to consume the nation, it is worthwhile noting that other similar protests are also taking place in Australia (#ConvoyToCanberra), the US (#FreedomConvoyUSA2022), France (#convoisdelaliberte), Austria and other countries in Europe (#europeanfreedomconvoy). All of them have been inspired by the initial protest in Canada (#TruckersForFreedom2022), which is occurring in the depths of a typical Canadian winter.

These protests are confounding government agencies attempting to grapple with them, as the protestors are diverse and across the spectrum of each country’s population. There is no single group for government agencies to negotiate with. The protests are largely peaceful. Violence particularly from police forces deployed against protestors, have been well-documented by independent media.

The extraordinary size of the protests and their diversity clearly belie politicians’ assertions of a “fringe minority”.

Europe

There are multiple convoys in Europe, all set to converge on Brussels in the next few days.

France

The French convoy includes farmers on their tractors.

The protests are not without incident. Police are firing tear gas at protestors in Paris and dragging out drivers from stationary vehicles after smashing side windows.

Spain

USA

The protest convoys have only just begun in the USA and are mainly focused on the border with Canada, supporting the Canadian protest. The main US protest is planned for 1st March.

Canadian tow trucks and farmers have also joined the convoy. The call for protestors in Canada has continued to grow and includes former military and police.
