In a post last week, I made the claim that elections around the world are trending strongly back toward the centre right – and that claim has been convincingly borne out in the outcome of New Zealand’s Local Government elections.

In a stunning series of results around the country, centre right candidates have cleaned up in Mayoral and Council elections in both the cities and the provinces.

With the exception of Wellington, the Local Body elections were a disaster for Labour and a massive repudiation of the alt:left ideology which has held sway over our country since 2017.

At a local level, the results are a strong rejection of left leaning Councillors and Councils which have ignored the views of their citizens and pushed ahead with anti-business and anti-car policies; hugely increased their unwelcome involvement in non-traditional activities at massive cost to ratepayers; embraced woke-ism and ‘cancel culture’; and elevated Climate Change to a form of religion in which nothing but a slavish adherence to the prevailing narrative can be tolerated.

At a national level, the results are a clear warning to the disastrous and failed Government of Jacinda Ardern and her fellow ideologues: “You’re next”.

The people of this country have had enough.

They’re tired of being preached at; at having their rights taken from them; at being forced to accept bizarre ideas and ideologies that are at odds with who we are as a people; at being told that their free speech is ‘dangerous’ and must be controlled; at watching their hard-earned tax dollars being wasted on ill-considered projects and an orgy of unrestrained excess; at watching families, communities and ethnic groups being deliberately set against each other by a Government hell-bent on creating division; and at standing by helplessly while crime soars, measures of national health plummet and educational achievement drops to lows not seen in a generation.
